Despite a standout performance from sophomore Michael Weaver, the Cal men’s golf team could not do enough to advance past the first three rounds at last week’s NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
Weaver recorded the program’s highest-ever individual NCAA finish, placing eighth overall after shooting an even-par 216 during 54-hole stroke play at the par-72, 7,416-yard Karsten Creek course.
However, the Bears as a team failed to crack the tournament’s top eight and advance to match play. They finished in a tie for 19th place with a total score of 38-over.
While Weaver’s final score would pace Cal, fellow sophomore Max Homa finished with the Bears’ best final round tally by firing an even-par 72 on Thursday. Hale finished second on the team with a 3-over 219
