Pedestrian robbed in the Downtown

A pedestrian was the victim of a strong-arm robbery in the Downtown Thursday evening.

At about 5:43 p.m., the victim, who is not affiliated with the university, was in front of 2068 Center St., according to a UCPD crime alert. The victim allegedly attempted to purchase prescription pills from a male suspect — 45-year-old Walter Slaughter — who then allegedly took the victim’s money and ran.

The victim chased Slaughter, caught up to him and held him down until the Berkeley Police Department arrived, according to the alert. Slaughter was then taken into custody by the department.

Slaughter is described as  5 feet 11 inches in height, 225 pounds, brown eyes and bald.
