Attempted strong arm robbery in the Downtown

The following is a crime alert, provided by UCPD.

On Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011, around 9:40 p.m., UCPD was informed that
City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a report of
a strong-arm robbery at the intersection of Shattuck Avenue and Allston
Street.  BPD Officers detained a suspect, but the victim chose to not seek
prosecution since the crime was attempted and not completed.

UCPD is awaiting more information from BPD regarding this offense and a
supplemental Crime Alert will be distributed.

The suspect was:
A White male, 20-30 years of age, 5’-09”, medium build, with long hair,
and wearing a multi-colored flannel button-up shirt.
