Junior Correy Johnson powered the Cal volleyball team to the Cal Molten Classic title in the Bears’ opening weekend, earning tournament MVP honors.
After a quiet opener against UC Riverside, Johnson caught fire against Fairfield on Saturday morning and was blazing by the evening’s contest against Florida International Univeristy.
In the last game, Johnson led all hitters with 12 kills — seven of which came in a single set — for an even .500 hitting percentage in the match.
The Panthers had no answer for Johnson’s signature slide play to the right side, which showcases the Winter Park, Fla., native’s pure athleticism. She was incredibly smart in her shot selection, varying in depth. Her strength, however, was never in doubt.
