Bears blank Rainbow Wahine

On Sunday night, the Cal women’s soccer team captured the ‘Ohana Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi Tournament when it defeated Hawaii 3-0 in Honolulu.

After a 7-0 thrashing of North Dakota State, the Bears (3-1) came out swinging, takingĀ 10 shots at the Rainbow Wahine defense in the first half.

In the 33rd minute, Hawaii’s defense finally cracked as forward Mekenna DeBack cleaned up midfielder Katie Bennett’s missed free kick to give Cal a 1-0 lead.

Despite the goal, the Wahine defense did not collapse like the Bison in the previous match. The squad held strong until the 77th minute, when forward Miranda White flicked the ball past the goalkeeper from a corner kick.

The tired Hawaii defense gave up another goal in the 82nd minute to Katie Benz, who headed her fourth goal of the season.

In the weekend tournament, the Bears outshot both North Dakota State and Hawaii, 36-6, and out scored them by 10 goals.
