Berkeley man arrested after leading Vallejo police in high speed pursuit

A Berkeley man was arrested Saturday morning in Vallejo on suspicion of drunk driving after driving into a light pole, the Vallejo Times Herald reported Monday.

At about 5:30 a.m., officers saw a vehicle driving at a high speed in the area of Mariposa Street and Springs Road. When they began pursuing it, the car led them on a high speed chase, which ended on Magazine and Pine streets, where the car struck a parked car and a light pole, police told the Times Herald.

The driver, Mario Austin, 35, of Berkeley, drove up to 100 mph on Interstate 80, and lost control of the car as he exited on Magazine. Austin was allegedly intoxicated, and was arrested and booked into Solano County jail, police told the Times Herald.
