A UC Berkeley student was robbed of his iPhone and cash on Southside Saturday night. No suspects have been arrested.
At approximately 9 p.m., the victim, a 20-year-old male student, was standing alone on the 2400 block of Channing Way west of Telegraph Avenue when he was approached by three males, according to a UCPD crime alert. The first suspect pushed the victim and demanded that he take out his property. The victim complied, and the suspect took the cash in the victim’s wallet.
Meanwhile, the second suspect grabbed the victim’s iPhone, and then the three suspects fled the scene on foot westbound on Channing, the crime alert said. UCPD and Berkeley Police Department officers searched the area but could not locate the suspects.
The victim was not injured during the encounter.
The suspects were described as three males of 25-30 years old, all with a medium to heavy build. One suspect was wearing a beanie, a black jacket with a white T-shirt on under it and jeans. The second suspect had short, almost shaved hair and was wearing a gray T-shirt and gray shorts. The third suspect had shoulder-length brown twisties and was wearing a gray T-shirt and gray knee-length shorts.

Lack of ethnic background makes this entire article worthless. I would assume that it wasn’t some white kids from a coop on northside. Why can’t you just copy the police report word for word instead of blatantly avoiding the issue of race? Poor journalism, hopefully you graduate this year.
What’s ironic is that the reporter detailed the colors of the T-shirts and shorts, but intentionally left out the ethnicity.
Note how the race of the perps has been conveniently left out. You’re a pathetic excuse for a journalist, Stephanie Baer of the Daily Californian…
Of course if the 3 males were registered Republicans or Tea Party members, not only would that information be posted in the title as well as the story, but we would be subject to several op-ed spinoff articles on the subject. But, since they happen to be _______, we can’t mention THAT, can we?

I object to the identification of the suspects’ gender. This just plays into our blatant gender stereotyping of males as being more likely to commit crimes.
I love how the Daily Cal copies the UCPD crime bulletin word for word, except for removing the suspects’ race.
Good job protecting us students from our latent racism, Stephanie. You are doing a great service to the great leftwing reeducation project.
Intentionally leaving out information as fundamental to identifying as suspect as the color of his skin isn’t a stand for social justice–it’s a stand for willful ignorance and idiocy.
“The suspects were described as three males of 25-30 years old…”
LOL. That description is missing an obvious element… What was the race/ethnic background of the perpetrator? More politically correct lunacy that jeopardizes public safety.
