On having seven siblings
“I lost track. Too many of us. I don’t know how my parents did it. My mom is a strong woman. My dad just raised us all being athletes, trained us since we were younger.”
On his teammates reactions to him having a big family
“They’re like, ‘Dang, you’ve got a big family, man. How does your mom do it?’ The first question, actually, when I tell them there’s eight of us total, everybody’s first reaction is, ‘Is it all from one mom?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ ‘Man, your mom is one strong woman.’ And she is. I respect her for that.”
Comparing his home state of Utah to Berkeley
“It’s a lot different. Utah is a more calm, family place. Coming out here to Berkeley is a little more wild, but I love it out here. It’s a great environment. It’s a lot different from home, but I enjoy it.”
“I feel like Utah is a family place; it’s clean. When I come out here, it’s totally the opposite. You see hippies everywhere. You walk down the street and there are dirty bums on the street. You can wear whatever you want out here and not be judged. So I love it. I can walk around, wear whatever I want — not nude — without anybody judging you.”
On whether Jeff Tedford would let him join the rugby team
“I doubt it. I’d enjoy to, but I doubt it. They’re a great team over here. I don’t think they need my help.”
On his name
“(It’s short for) Isileli. I’m named after my grandpa who passed away, Grandpa Isi we called him, AKA Cowboy we called him. We called him Cowboy because he died his hair blond. Yeah, I’m named after my grandpa, my dad’s dad. Isileli, in English, is Israel. So, it’s an island name.”
