A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook the East Bay Thursday afternoon, causing little or no damage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The agency reported that the quake struck at 2:41 p.m. and was centered in southeast Berkeley at the UC Berkeley Clark Kerr Campus. The quake was originally reported to be magnitude 4.2, but was downgraded to 3.9 and then — after being reviewed by a seismologist — upgraded to 4.0.
Construction at Memorial Stadium — located directly on the Hayward Fault — was not disrupted by the earthquake, according to Christine Shaff, communications director of UC Berkeley Facilities Services.
Shaff said there have been no reports of any damage on campus.
The Berkeley Police Department had not received any reports of damage or injury as of 3:27 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Mary Kusmiss, spokesperson for the department, in an email.
Copying and pasting the coordinates from the agency into Google maps gives the epicenter location.

The stadium may well have suffered structural damage due to the quake,
but don’t expect UC to admit to that.
More likely they will not look for damage, this will guarantee they don’t find any.
Then they will insist that they are not aware of any problems at the stadium.
$320 million in debt for the renovation, that’s way too much for them to own up to the fact that restoration on a fault is incredibly stupid.
Here’s hoping it comes crumbling down, just not when it’s full of fans.
Lots of stuff fell over at my house. Art work on the walls tilted in many different directions.
Scary!
