Yes, Halloween is about candy and sexy costumes and partying. But remember that whole other aspect of it with all the ghouls and gore and stuff? I forget about it some years too. Luckily, this weekend the Bay Area is creeping with arts events to remind you what Halloween is really all about. Here are a few that strike me as particularly spooky and fun.

Author Herbert Gold will be screening a documentary he is in entitled “Hotel Haiti.” Directed by German filmmaker Uly Aumuller, the documentary explores the voodoo and art of Haiti.

The Blob: A Shapeless Spectacle
The Berkeley Art Museum will be screening the ’80s monster classic “The Blob” as part of their Halloween edition of L@TE. This will apparently be accompanied by gooey treats and “a giant air sac with sounds and images emitting from its moving membrane.”
