As the title suggests, this week we have some major label record releases and some not-so-big label concerts. Either way, it’s a solid week in the sonic spectrum.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, the solo project of Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher, will be giving his debut self-titled solo album a stateside release this week. While the Gallagher brothers aren’t the nicest or humblest of people, perhaps Oasis fans will still flock to this latest release. Should a person’s personality affect whether or not people want to buy his/her records? It’s been proven that artists like Kanye West can spout off whatever they want and still be popular, should that be accepted?

Angels & Airwaves will be releasing both parts of their Love album this week as a double feature CD. What’s your favorite Tom DeLonge act? Do you think he should stick to one, the other, or both?

There’s two promising shows this week at two of the smaller venues in SF. This Thursday is Popscene Club Night at the Rickshaw Stop, with headliner Geographer. The local electronica act have been steadily gaining fame and for $13, it’s a pretty affordable way to kick off an awesome holiday weekend.

Want to continue the holiday festivities with more concerts? Ra Ra Riot are playing the Great American Music Hall this Friday. How many upbeat, alt rock bands have both a cellist and a violinist? Another great band to check out, and also at a reasonable price. It doesn’t get better than that folks. Great music at even better prices, what more could a Berkeley student ask for? What are some concerts that you’ve been to that didn’t leave your wallet crying?
