Integrative biology faculty, students condemn campus response to Occupy Cal

Members of the UC Berkeley Department of Integrative Biology have initiated a petition condemning the actions of the campus administration following last week’s Occupy Cal protests.

When this post was written, the petition had been signed by over 300 members of the campus community.

“We are deeply disturbed by the images of violence against members of the campus community, as well as the justification and defense of these acts that followed,” the petition reads.

In an email addressed to top campus administrators, integrative biology graduate student Greg Goldsmith said the petition had been signed by a majority of the integrative biology department, including faculty, postdoctoral scholars, staff and graduate students.

“If the sentiments of the department are at all representative, then there can be little doubt that the campus community as a whole does not support the administration’s actions,” he said in the email.
