Today, Occupy Cal brings in some music to propel the movement. Cal alumnus Jeff Chang will be one of the open university teachers for the day. Chang, whose record label helped launch the careers of DJ Shadow, Blackalicious and Lyrics Born, is the winner of numerous literary awards and is currently working on three new book projects. The author of ”Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation” will be speaking at Sproul Plaza starting at 12:15.
Tonight at the mass sleep-out, a surprise musical or spoken-word artist will perform. The goal of the sleep-out is to have a safe, fun activity and to show solidarity with the UC Davis students and faculty who are taking action today.
In less politically-savvy news, Chris Cornell’s latest album Songbook comes out today. This marks the singer’s first live acoustic album, coming out right after the end of his acoustic tour. Mary J. Blige ‘s latest album also comes out this week. My Life II…The Journey Continues (Act1) will be the R&B singer’s the tenth studio album.
There’s a few concerts to catch this week during the holiday week. Noah and the Whale will be playing at the Great American Music Hall in SF today. tUnE-yArDs will be playing this Wednesday at the Regency Ballroom, while B.B. King will play at Oakland’s Paramount Theater. Those interested in a local band will have a chance to check out three at Slim’s in San Francisco this Saturday. A B & the Sea, Finish Ticket and Young Science will be playing in support of San Jose group The Holdup. Will you be attending any of these shows, or will you be gone this Thanksgiving weekend?
