Seven computers stolen from Graduate Assembly building

Seven computers worth an estimated $14,000 were stolen from the UC Berkeley Graduate Assembly building between Nov. 23 and 25, according to the UCPD crime logs.

At 9:55 a.m. on Nov. 25, UCPD received a call that seven Mac computers were found missing from Anthony Hall and determined that a theft had taken place, according to the logs. Two computers were found unplugged and left near the exit doors, according to Graduate Assembly President Bahar Navab.

Navab said that since all the doors to the building were locked to her knowledge, those responsible must have had key access to the building. Police dusted the scene but did not find any fingerprints that could have been connected to the crime, she said.

The theft was not the first in recent months — another two computers were stolen from the same building a little over a month ago, after which the building locks were replaced. However, anyone who owned a master key could still open the replacement locks, according to Navab.

Although assembly members requested key card access and the installation of security cameras in the building following the first incident, the process of addressing the requests has been slow, Navab said.

“The process is going to be a long and extensive one, but at this point it will definitely be worth it,” she said.
