Magnitude 2.2 earthquake rattles Berkeley

Berkeley was hit by a magnitude 2.2 earthquake Tuesday afternoon.

The quake, which struck at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday, caused weak shaking and no damage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the earthquake was north of the UC Berkeley, near Lawrence Hall of Science.

The U.S.G.S. response system — in which residents can report whether they felt an earthquake in their city — shows that the temblor was felt in Orinda, San Jose and Albany.

The event has not yet been reviewed by a seismologist, according to the U.S.G.S.
