Temperatures expected to drop below freezing

The Bay Area could see frost and temperatures below freezing this week, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, temperatures could drop to the 20s or 30s at night in the East Bay Hills and other parts of the Bay Area, warns the alert released Tuesday. Temperatures in Berkeley dipped to a low of 33 degrees Fahrenheit Monday, according to weather.com.

In anticipation of this, the East Bay Municipal Utility District is recommending that customers protect their exposed water lines — by wrapping the plumbing with insulating material — because pipes can be damaged if the water within them freezes.
