Berkeley was hit by a small earthquake Friday afternoon, with an epicenter near Sather Tower on the UC Berkeley campus, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The 1.2 magnitude earthquake hit at 4:49 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The coordinates provided by the agency put the epicenter adjacent to Birge Hall, just east of Sather Tower.
The Hayward Fault runs underneath the UC Berkeley campus.
