UC Berkeley student sustains multiple injuries, victim of aggravated assault

A UC Berkeley student was taken to the hospital after being the victim of an aggravated assault Sunday, police say.

The 19-year-old male student was walking south on Piedmont Avenue near the intersection with Haste Street when he was approached by three males, according to a UCPD crime alert released Wednesday. The males allegedly knocked him to the ground and kicked him in the head, causing injuries to his face, nose and mouth, according to the alert.

When the UCPD officer talked to the victim at a local emergency room, he saw the victim had several broken teeth.

Aggravated assault is defined by UCPD as “an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury.”

“This type of assault is usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by means likely to produce death or great bodily harm,” according to the UCPD definition.
