Berkeley Police Department officers were involved in a shooting this afternoon in Castro Valley, resulting in the hospitalization of one officer with “serious leg and hand injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office.
According to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a BPD investigative unit was pursuing a suspect in Castro Valley at around 5 p.m. Wednesday, when an officer who was on foot became pinned between his unmarked police vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle.
Nelson said police believe the suspect backed his car into the officer.
At some point during the incident, the injured officer’s partner fired at the suspect, hitting him, according to Nelson. Nelson said the medical condition of the suspect is currently unknown.
The injured officer is being treated at Eden Medical Center.

“Nelson said police believe the suspect backed his car into the officer.”
