Motion of no confidence in UC Davis chancellor fails

UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi survived a no confidence vote by faculty and staff Friday evening.

Katehi’s leadership came under scrutiny following the controversial Occupy protest events at her campus last November, when police officers used pepper spray on demonstrators. According to The Sacramento Bee, the motion asking for a vote of no confidence in Katehi failed with 697 no votes and 312 yes votes out of 2,693 eligible voters consisting of current and retired faculty.

In a statement released by the UC Office of the President, UC President Mark Yudof expressed gratification in the results.

“She has my full support,” Yudof said in the statement. “In response to recent protest-related controversies, the chancellor has demonstrated both her integrity as a leader and her personal empathy for all members of the UC Davis community.”

Yudof also said in the statement that a task force organized by the office that is charged with investigating the events came at the request of Katehi. That task force, led by former state Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, is expected to release a report in March.

UC Berkeley faculty similarly proposed a motion of no confidence in senior campus officials following the controversial Nov. 9 Occupy Cal protest, during which police officers used batons against protesters. The proposal language was later amended to exclude the expression of  no confidence, but four resolutions were passed that criticized the administration’s response to the protest.

     jesus h christ,
if the faculty don’t give a shit about the UC,  then why should anybody else?
37.5% turnout of eligible voters is terrible, no matter which way the vote goes.
Question for the DailyFail: how many of the 2693 are retired?

“Yudof also said in the statement that a task force organized by the
office that is charged with investigating the events came at the request
    of Katehi”
But what neither Yudof nor DailyCal are willing to say is this:
Reynoso’s investigation is being impeded by the UC Davis administration. Previously UC promised Reynoso the university’s full cooperation (including access to officers for interviews) in investigation. Then they refused to make some officers available at all, and dragged their feet for months with respect to others.

As always Yudof is lying through his teeth, but hey shit-sack is as shit-sack does.

    I fully agree with Yudof.

      her integrity as a leader?
initially she said she saw no problem with the incident at Davis, then she made a quick public reversal of position. So she either lied or initially spoke about the incident while having no knowledge of what transpired. (no integrity or incompetence, take your pick.)
also this scandal in her previous position as provost at UIUC:
      http://davisvanguard.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2855:documents-cast-doubt-on-chancellor-katehis-denial-in-illinois-scandal&Itemid=118
“[Katehi] went on to directly argue that she was “not involved in the admissions decisions that were the subject of the Tribune’s “Clout Goes to College” investigation.”Moreover, “Because of the governmental relations aspect and the involvement of University of Illinois System trustees, the so-called “Category I” admissions process was not part of the regular admissions system and was handled at a higher level in the institution.
Further examination of the Chicago Tribune website, casts doubt on the incoming Chancellor’s explanation that these issues were “handled at a higher level in the institution.”
Indeed the Vanguard has now uncovered emails on the Chicago Tribune site that shows her direct-line subordinate making these decisions to admit students with scores and grades that should have been too low for consideration.

either you don’t know the facts of the case at Davis, or you are mentally defective… or you are in the employ of UCOP itself
      hahahaha YOU FAIL IT.
