The accolades just keep on coming for the Cal softball team.
After a 4-0 showing at the Kajikawa classic in Tempe, the Bears ascended to the No. 1 position in the ESPN rankings. And now, first baseman/pitcher Valerie arioto has received some accolades of her own. The USA softball national team member and former All-American hit .444 with three home runs and nine RBI this past weekend, earning her national player of the week recognition. Arioto also tossed seven innings of shutout ball in relief of Jolene Henderson.
Arioto’s performance, after redshirting last year because of an injury, is surely a welcome addition for the already stacked squad. If Arioto can continue this torrid pace, Cal may be the team to beat in college softball this year.
