Ginger Miles is not only the previous head coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, having guided the Lacrosse Division III CMS team to two conference titles in 2010 and 2011. She is also a member of the US Lacrosse Women’s Game Committee, the first year head lacrosse coach at Cal, and a web blogger on Mondays.
Coming in as a new coach, Miles knew there would be questions about who she was, where the program was going and how the team would regroup after last year’s shock of almost being cut.
“I started this blog because I understood people would want to know who was taking over the program after the tough times last year,” Miles said. “I really want everyone to know that this is a team that’s going to be led with optimism, heart and passion — something that we’ve tried to ignite in these players.”
Every Monday, like a standard blogger, Miles reflects on recent matches and provides updates on how the team is doing. However, she writes in a way that gives the game and the players a down-to-earth feel.
Although Miles spends a large majority of her blog praising the hard work, effort and commitment manifest in her players, her admiration for the game and for her team reduces the athletes to regular girls with a simple love for lacrosse. Miles takes the sport and makes it understandable to anyone who has ever had a passion for doing something they love, and she does it well.
