After each team won its second-straight national championship last month, the awards for the Cal men’s and women’s swim teams keep coming in.

Tom Shields and Caitlin Leverenz — who both led their respective teams to a second straight national championship — were named Pac-12 men’s and women’s Swimmers of the Year on Monday. The juniors were each named Swimmer of the Meet at this year’s NCAA Championships.

Shields won three events at March’s NCAA Championships, including his third straight as a member of the 400 medley relay. He also grabbed wins in the 100 fly and 100 back and was the only returning member of last year’s national title team. Shields now has eleven national championships: four individual titles, five relay titles, and two team national championships.

Leverenz won four events at NCAAs, setting three national records in the process. The junior was a part of both the 200 and 400 medley relays for the second straight year. Leverenz missed another record in the 200 breast by just one hundredth of a second.

David Durden and Teri McKeever were named Pac-12 men’s and women’s Coaches of the Year, respectively.

Durden was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. The fifth-year coach has led the Bears to a top-four finish in each of his five seasons at the helm, including back-to-back national championships. Durden was also named National Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011.

McKeever led the Bears to their third championship in the last four years. She will coach the U.S. National Team at the London Olympics and was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year last year as well.
