Sherbert and Park to leave Cal women’s basketball

The Cal women’s basketball team will have two holes to fill in their player roster and coaching staff.

According to Bear Insider’s Viet Nguyen, forward Lindsay Sherbert will be transferring out of Cal. There is yet no word on the reason of her transfer or her future team.

Assistant coach Daron Park, who was brought into the staff by head coach Lindsay Gottlieb this year, will be leaving to USC for the same role. Park has been responsible for coaching the post players in his first year at Cal.

Sherbert, a sophomore, started 21 games and averaged 5.2 points per game this past season. The Temecula, Calif., native replaced Afure Jemerigbe’s starting spot midway through the regular season, providing perimeter shooting to the starting five. Sherbert was the team leader in 3-pointers made with 38.

More details to follow.

Coaching changes happen, but I’m a tad  surprised to see Park leave for USC after only one season.  I will miss Sherbert and am rather surprised to see her go.  At any rate, I wish them both the best of luck.  Good people who will be missed.
