I have been reading The Daily Californian on campus for more than 40 years; I don’t think the readability, attractiveness and thoughtfulness of the paper has ever been this good. The economic pressure the Daily Cal felt seems to have produced unexpectedly fabulous results, and the editors and other folks who were midwives to this transition are all to be praised. The new format is great and makes the paper look much more like a real newspaper.
I have also seen the paper weave back and forth between positions that seemed to me to be to the left or right of the vast majority of students on campus, and I think the paper currently seems to express the opinion of thoughtful Cal folks in ways that reasonably reflect widely shared beliefs. Congrats, and keep it up!
