Berkeley police officers responded to reports of possible gunfire in West Berkeley around 5 p.m. Wednesday and found bullet casings and blood but no victims at the scene.
According to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Mary Kusmiss, a male victim showed up at a local trauma center with a non-life threatening injury, but police can not confirm whether or not he was involved.
“BPD is still on scene investigating. BPD Homicide detectives were notified,” Kusmiss said in an email. “Patrol is handling the preliminary investigation. Homicide will do the follow up investigation.”
Kusmiss said in the email that it is too early to speculate on a suspect or suspects or a motive.
