It’s summer time. It’s actually the first official day of summer. So that means it’s time for everyone to start making like rabbits and…hopping around to terrible techno-infused sounds (not music).Thankfully, one half of the Infamous (Mobb Deep) is back in the house once again to provide us with that gully, that straight gutter soundtrack for all of us and our “Pretty Thug” partners while the radio is going to beat us over the head with Maroon 5 and god knows what else.
“Pretty Thug” is about as sentimental of a track as you’re going to get from Prodigy, which means it’s not really at all. Gangsters don’t show emotion. Or if they do, they do it in their own way (“Give me a gangster bitch/I want to gangster do it with my gangster/ Give me a gangster bitch”). But that doesn’t detract from how much you need this song in your life. How can you even consider rolling with your woman in the passenger seat without this track spraying (not leaking) out of your speakers?
The video for this N.Y. summer-jam (below) chronicles Prodigy’s release from prison. I’m not sure if it really went down this way, or if his P.O. (Parole Officer) is cool with him busting shots just yet, but I believe it was Big Noyd who said, “Even pack my gat when I go to see my P.O.” Words to live by.
