A woman was the victim of a strong arm robbery near Campanile Way Sunday night.
The woman, a 28-year-old female student, was walking on campus playing a game on her iPhone when she was approached by a man who grabbed her cellphone, according to a UCPD crime alert.
“Our officers responded and learned the victim had her cell phone stolen,” said UCPD Capt. Margo Bennett. “An officer received a description of the suspect and were able to stop and detain a suspect meeting the description the victim and witness identified.”
The victim chased the suspect and screamed for help and two bystanders followed the suspect and managed to retrieve the victim’s phone, according to the alert.
According to Bennett, UCPD received a call at 7:45 p.m. saying that an individual was chasing a suspect down Frank Schlessinger Way.
Bennett said officers arrested David Tecle on the 2100 block of Allston Way at 8:06 p.m. and recovered the woman’s cell phone.
The woman was not injured during the incident.
