Dear freshmen,

Congratulations on getting into the best public university in the known universe! Now that your first semester is under way, an infinite number of opportunities await you. To maximize your experiences in Berkeley’s academic, social and cultural spheres, please consider this issue a modest guide to beginning this incredible journey. In light of Cal’s recent achievements at the 2012 London Olympics, we want everyone to succeed and bask in the golden glow of a new school year. Take the time to explore every inch of our beautiful campus — then venture out into the cities beyond. There’s no better time in your life to get out of that musty comfort zone and try new things. Go hear a symphony, see a play, try new food — it’s all here for the taking. However, we believe Cal’s most unique resource is its people, and we encourage you to meet as many of them as possible. There’s really no other bunch quite like us. We hope this issue will whet your appetite for the amazing things the Bay Area has to offer. Enjoy these “Golden Years.” As former freshmen, we consider it a privilege and duty to share our hard-won wisdom with a new generation.Go ahead, leave your mark, and Go Bears!
