An armed robbery occurred Sunday morning when two victims were approached at the intersection of Benvenue Avenue and Russell Street.
The female and male victims were walking when they were approached by two male suspects at 12:54 a.m., according to a UCPD crime alert released Tuesday. One of the males allegedly produced a handgun and demanded the victims’ property.
The victims handed over their belongings, including a wallet, purse and cellphones. Neither victim was harmed during the encounter, according to the alert.
The suspects immediately left the scene on foot, police said. Berkeley Police Department searched the area but was unable to locate the suspects.
According to the UCPD crime alert, the suspects are described as:
Suspect #1 – a Black male, in his late 20s, 6’3” and 180 lbs., wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
Suspect #2 – a Black male, in his late 20s, 6’0” and 170 lbs., wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

It’s pathetic liberals that allow these thugs to terrorize the student population, stripping the UCPD of most of it’s powers and ignoring the issues of race that lie at the bottom of this problem.

Hey, Anti-Racist, Don’t call me a racist. I am only stating facts….99% of the attacks, robberies, and other crimes are committed by African-Americans. Look at the UCPD Crime Alerts and Advisories……so pull your head out. My son was attacked during his sophomore year while walking home on College Ave. Two black thugs started punching him in the head and upper body until they realized he didn’t have a wallet or backpack. What a bunch of cowards. This happened in 2007 and It seems to be getting worse as they are now pulling out deadly weapons. I was so happy when he graduated and moved out of the area. My younger daughter decided to attend UCLA….what a relief.

I once pepper sprayed a black thug in the face and then had him arrested, turns out he had a gun and would have killed me had i not been aware of the inherent criminal tendency of his kind and stayed alert
…I’d like to know what the UCPD is doing to protect the students from these black thugs. What about having undercover police officers walking around during the evenings to catch the thieves.
100% agreed. You may not know this Concerned Cal Mom, but apparently, the UCPD has received a grant for a specific task force dedicated towards catching students with fake IDs. This would explain the spike in undercover cops that I have encountered in the first couple of weeks here (PS cops: I am legal and my ID is real, so you can quit trying to scrape away at the surface of it). What about a special task force for cops to go undercover and stop people from getting mugged at night??! Priorities?
This is pathetic. After four years of this, most Cal students will be less inclined to interact with black people than when they came to the university. One of the most liberal universities in the world is indirectly teaching its students that diversity is bad.
I am definitely less inclined to interact with black people because the are the 99%…the 99% of people committing crimes against students. I’m all for diversity in the academy, let hard working students of African American descent into our illustrious programs. Just keep their not-so-academically-inclined friends off my lawn.

And who made you the hand-wave gatekeeper for acceptance into our academy? “Let hard working students of African American descent into our illustrious programs.” The tone is very suspiciously “white man (or perhaps asian?) does black people a favor by letting a couple of em into our illustrious programs.”

These armed robberies are almost routine now. Even Columbia students don’t have to suffer this kind of outrage. All Cal students should switch to disposable cell phones and carry at most $20 plus school ID, or carry a fake wallet. The police can’t help you because Berkeley’s political leaders won’t allowed them to use racial profiling. However, individual students can be as politically incorrect as they wish for their own safety.

I’m thinking more of all those government surplus Smith & Wesson model 60s (2″ 38 calibre). Sure, they aren’t much of a combat weapon, but they are easy to conceal and cheap. 3 rounds of short stop followed by 3 rounds of hollow point should be sufficient to incapacitate a thug. Require students to take a gun safety course and qualify at a local range before issuing weapons, and require refresher courses once a semester. These animals need to learn that they aren’t at the top of the food chain…

Not to worry. Most criminally inclined negroes have the bad habit of holding their piece at funny angles where they don’t do much damage, thanks to them thinking that every gangsta rap video is an instructional manual on how to use a firearm. The ones that can do real damage are the blacks with military and law enforcement experience, but I’m not worried about them because for the most part they are decent folk, much better than the white liberal trash that infests Berkeley. Odds are with those who know how to use weapons properly.

Sounds good, but I fear that students might get hurt if they start carrying guns. What we need is someone like Charles Bronson in Death Wish or Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry to clean up the streets. Maybe have fundraisers selling pepper spray, stun guns and provide self-defense classes. The students need to unite and take control of Bear Territory before it becomes Thug Territory.
