There are people and then there are celebrities. They’re in a class of their own, if E! network has anything to say about it. Stars of the screen and stage do not live the same as you or I. No, they do not wear the same pair of pants three days in a row. No, they would not dare to dawn a shirt with Hot Pocket cheese stains on it. And, they would certainly never submit to taking embarrassing photos with your drunken friends.
But, this is where you’d be wrong, sweet public. Because Tom Hanks did just that a few weeks ago — posing with some regular ol’ young’uns like he’s just one of the guys. Those lucky devils.
It’s a long-standing fact in Hollywood that Tom Hanks is just about the nicest guy in town. He always stops to say “hi” to fans, he does the Academy Awards instructional video for nominees, he buys pens at the local market and like any other Average Joe, he owns around 80 typewriters (see below, around the 4:00 minute mark):
Yes, Tom Hanks is unique among movie stars in that he has achieved immense celebrity and numerous accolades as an actor but still appears to be as strange and, some would say, blasé as the rest of us. Unlike the veneer of cool that some, like Sean Penn or Johnny Depp, uphold, Tom Hanks doesn’t have to pretend. Oh no. He’s the eccentric uncle of Hollywood and we all love him the more for it.
