A man was the victim of an attempted robbery Tuesday at the Channing-Bowditch Apartment complex, according to campus police.

At about 5 p.m., a 20-year-old male student was standing on the sidewalk by the apartments with a bicycle when he saw a group of people walking across the street. A male member of the group approached the student and asked for a cigarette, according to the UCPD crime report.

The student gave the male a cigarette, and the male then left the area. Ten minutes later, the same subject returned with a male companion. The subjects allegedly spoke to the student in a threatening manner and asked the student to give them his bike, the alert reads.

The victim was able to enter the secure area of the apartment complex with his bicycle. The suspect and the companion left the area, and the victim was not injured.

One of the suspects is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, six feet tall, with a thin build and medium-dark-colored hair. There is no description for the second subject at this time.
