The Berkeley City Council kicks off the month of October with a 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday night. The meeting agenda appears to be relatively low key, with the majority of items either old business or on the consent calendar.
Of the consent calendar items, one item of note is the lease for used bookstores proposed by the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library. If the lease agreement passes, the city expects to raise nearly $70,000 in revenue.
Of the new business, a major theme has been investigating emergency preparation, especially for vulnerable populations. The city includes people like the disabled, young children, elderly and homeless individualsĀ as vulnerable and underserved populations.
The proposed items would look to creating methods of reaching out and enhancing disaster preparedness for these target population groups.
