A UCPD officer was transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while getting ready for work.
UCPD spokesperson Lt. Eric Tejada said the officer was getting dressed at 8:45 a.m. when he accidentally discharged his weapon in the department’s locker room in Sproul Hall. After other officers assisted the 20-year veteran in the department’s locker room, he was transported to the hospital for “nonthreatening injuries,” Tejada said.
The department will conduct an investigation into the matter, which will include looking at the weapon, equipment and what the officer was doing at the time, according to Tejada.
“It could be something to do with the equipment,” Tejada said, adding that one possibility was a problem with the holster and not the weapon itself.

Obviously, someone needs to retire…
Who is this Svend La Rose character ?
One of the most depraved, unfortunate souls out of the lot of them that haunt our campus.
Gun safety is non-negotiable. Every person who is assigned a gun should know better than to shoot himself. The officer in question should be compulsorily retired.
Can’t believe you make these comments without a pseudonym. How embarrassing.
Ey fat fuck, are you autistic or something? And is legas studies REALLY such an easy major that you have time to sit around and make retarded comments on the Daily Cal all fuckin day?
Wow this must be the stupidest comment here. Being a legal studies major also, I am embarrassed that you are in the same department.
Despite the various failings of the UCPD I appreciate the officers’ efforts to keep Berkeley safe(ish). However, this totally just made me laugh a little too loudly in the VLSB library haha
Epic fail, bro
I feel sorry for the guy, but considering what UCPD has done over the years it makes this hilarious.
karma huh?
Bad gun handling is NOT kharma. Bad gun handling is cause for dismissal from the police service.
Just like bad comments is cause for dismissal from the legal studies department.
Congratulations, Svend la Douche. I think you may be one of the most hated people on this website.
