Man assaulted with deadly weapon in People’s Park Saturday

A man sitting at table in People’s Park was assaulted with a deadly weapon Saturday morning.

A 49-year-old man was sitting at a table at around 9:30 a.m. when he was approached from behind by a suspect who struck him several times in the head, arm and shoulder with a blunt object, according to a UCPD crime alert released Wednesday.

The suspect then fled west on Dwight Way, according to the alert.

The victim sustained multiple impact wounds and abrasions and went to a local emergency room to be treated. UCPD was alerted of the incident by emergency room personnel.

The victim was not willing to identify the suspect, according to the alert. Police did not locate a suspect during a search of the area.

According to the alert, the suspect is described as:
“A White male in his 20s, 6 ft. tall, with an average build, wearing a red jersey and long black shorts.”

Bum assaults tweaker, details at 10. Who cares.

  2. Steed Dropout, Berkeley says:

The premise to most of the flaming comments is that the park poses a threat to law-abiding citizens, and the usual chorus of self-righteous vigilantes goes after the park, itself. Tear it down, and all.

The profile of the crime in question clearly shows it was a grudge attack between “friends.” This has nothing to do with us. But we see a low-level intelligence in these knee-jerk responses, every time there is an assault in the park. Nothing new has emerged in years of comments.

Worthington knows more about the park than any other mayoral candidate (his district), and he has an incomparable record of outreach to students.

Not willing to identify the suspect , something’s not right here…

  4. Dan Spitzer says:

Enough already. It’s time for UC Berkeley to turn Peoples Park into a dorm, offices, parking lot, anything other than the bailiwick for bums it has been for decades. And a majority of Berkeley citizens would support the university if it did so.

As for Krissy Worthington, who has supported this abomination for years as a spawning ground for crime, no reasonable person should vote for him as mayor and his destructive political career should be ended ASAP.

    • Guest says:

For all we know the suspect could be a Cal student.

    • Guest says:

Where would we put the poor and homeless people then?

      • Dan Spitzer says:

Berkeley is wonderfully welcoming to the indigent and there is plenty of shelter space for them, which in theory is a good thing. However, you can bring neither booze nor drugs into the shelters and that means that Peoples Park serves as a sleeping ground for those who cannot forgo their addictions-to say nothing of those urban predators who use the Park as a base for their illicit activities and felonious assaults.

      • Stan De San Diego says:

How about in shelters under close supervision where they have to obey the rules, such as no alcohol or drugs, and where you are required to seek work or treatment as appropriate? The mere fact that you can not or will not provide for your own sustenance doesn’t give you the right to squat in a public park and become a parasitical nuisance to the rest of the citizenry. If you can not or will not function as a productive citizen in a civilized society, then feel free to move out into the wilderness and fed for yourself with the rest of Nature’s creatures, where you also assume the ultimate consequences for your own sloth and inability to function as a rational human being.

I would suggest we actually help them. People’s Park is just a reminder that we don’t care about the poor or the homeless. We have had over 25 years since many homeless were put on the streets instead of being put into hospitals that could help them. With the budget deficit indicating that money is no problem, I would have thought society could have started putting many of the homeless back into the treatment programs they need.

    • Henry says:

Feminizing Kriss Worthington’s name as some kind of insult only displays your innate prejudices.

      • Dan Spitzer says:

Henry, I know his some of his friends and that is what they call Worthington. It is, shall we say, a “germ of endearment.” But while we don’t know you, it’s telling that you are so quick to be so PC about alleged prejudices. This undermines any credibility you might believe you have.

Henry, if you have something to say about Worthington, why not focus upon what I discussed, which is his absurd support for the abomination called Peoples Park. The “Peoples” it refers to are by and large a criminal element who so frequently make the S. campus area a no go zone for those who have good reason to fear so many who hang out in the park.

      • Stan De San Diego says:

Being prejudiced against criminal-loving left-wing jerks isn’t necessarily bad.

  5. Dr Berkeley says:

White people are so dangerous! Look at school shooters — always white. We should profile white people.

    • I_h8_disqus says:

I can go with this. Let’s profile everyone for what they may do. Columbine would be better off today, if we profiled the kids who shot up the school. However, you need to be fine with us profiling others for what they might do.

    • Dan Spitzer says:

I’m all for profiling the scumbags who populate Peoples Park, no matter what their color.
