It’s official: gold medalist and all-around swimming phenom Missy Franklin committed to Cal on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The 17 year-old broke onto the national radar at the 2012 London Olympics this past summer. She won a total of five medals, four of which were gold. She swept the 100 and 200 backstroke events; such talent will only add to Cal women’s swim coach Teri McKeever’s already deep lineup of backstrokers.
Franklin joins multiple teammates from the U.S. National Team, including McKeever, who was the head coach.
However, Franklin plans to only compete on the collegiate scale for her freshman and sophomore years; after the 2015 NCAA Championships she intends to turn pro.
