Male is victim of armed robbery on Benvenue Avenue

An armed robbery took place on the 2500 block of Benvenue Avenue Thursday evening.

A 21-year-old male was standing on the sidewalk around 6:05 p.m. when he was approached by two suspects, according to a UCPD crime alert released Friday. One suspect allegedly pointed a pistol at the victim’s chest and demanded his property.

The victim complied and gave his cellphone and bicycle to the suspect, the alert says. The victim, whose affiliation to UC Berkeley is unknown, was not harmed during the encounter.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and dropped the bicycle a short distance away from the victim, who recovered it.

Berkeley Police Department officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

According to the UCPD crime alert, the suspects are described as:

Suspect #1 – a Black male, approximately 19-20 years of age, 5’9” in height, thin/athletic build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and armed with a black semi-automatic pistol.

Suspect #2 – a Black male, approximately 19-20 years of age, thin/athletic build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

UCPD and BPD are pretty useless. I see UCPD in dining commons enforcing stupid rules about bringing in bags……and BPD spends most of their time in people’s park arresting and dealing with the homeless….while, these Oakland thugs run around in our backyard hurting our students…

  3. Student says:

Is it just me– or are these 2 men the same description for the past robberies in the past like 2 years?? It’s THE SAME PEOPLE. We need to CATCH THEM!!

    • parent says:

You are right, It is the same people. My daughter lives in the dorm two block from there. I am scared.

      • Cal Mom says:

I totally agree with you. It looks like these black thugs are crawling out of their hole earlier in the evening to rob the students. I wish the UCPD would go undercover and roam the streets in the evenings. I would like to know what the police are doing? They are always there after the fact when the criminals are long gone. It’s always the same description….young, black male, thin, athletic build, hooded sweatshirt….whoa , that really helps.

Wow, someone has a racist mom. Yet you know she dreams about black guys at night.

I honesty almost do desire to comment on this charged and loaded and subject and will do so only one time. This is only the leading edge of a much larger and more complex and truthfully ‘un-resolvable’ problem in America as there are so many components and factors to this tragedy, one of them being the horrid history and reality of child labor & exploitation in factories and the painful long history of African American slavery in all of it’s sordid and brutal dimensions. To keep a very long subject brief, most of these young men do *not* know who their own fathers are and worse, if they do, many of them fight to get their own children into the correct street gangs. Then there are the criminal and cultural thinking errors and distortions. They key to healing any of this is, and it will not be easy, is not just more $$$ but the healing of the black family in American as well as redefine it and what it really means. Same for European American and Asian families as our society continues to ( prayerfully ) course correct, evolve, morph and change. Many of you will see this all very differently in 20 years *if* we still have a country left to talk about such things in as per the economy and the loss of the middle and working class. In the meantime….this will only become more pronounced. How could it not?

I have seen those guys. They fit the description of most high school basketball players. The description is fucking useless. Fuck off.

Two more black thugs who enjoy terrorizing the Berkeley community.

    • Student says:

Please think about the racial implications of your words.

      • I_h8_disqus says:

We all should be thinking about the racial implications. Considering the population, too much crime in Berkeley is committed by blacks. It is time for people to recognize this, and to start doing things to reduce black crime. Ignoring race will just continue whatever problems are causing blacks to turn to crime instead of say going to college.

          substitute poor for black.

          • I_h8_disqus says:

I believe you are just ignoring the real issue. If it was just about being poor, then the percentage of crimes committed by blacks in Berkeley would be much smaller, because poor Latinos and whites would be out committing more crimes. I believe this is more of a cultural issue in the poor black community, and this culture continues to be the main reason that blacks are not reaching the levels of success that they are capable of reaching. There is no genetic or biological reason that would keep blacks from the same level of success that we see in whites and Asians. At Cal, it is pretty easy to see how different cultures have either a positive or negative effect on individuals within that culture.

You have a bit more information about why you are angry?

        • disqus_dh0iURWwgt says:

Yeah, and colleges have there own set of criminals, the overpaid lazy “professors” and the useless administrators. What a joke!!!

Think about the economic and health implications of ignoring those words.
