Berkeley Fire Department recognized Berkeley police officers Stanley Libed and Kevin Neff at a ceremony Thursday for their heroics during a fire last month.

On Oct. 3, the fire department and Berkeley Police Department responded to a third-alarm fire south of campus at 2924 Benvenue Ave. Before the arrival of emergency services, Libed and Neff entered the building and rescued one of the occupants who is normally confined to a wheelchair, according to Berkeley Fire Chief Gil Dong.

The fire department incorporated the two officers’ recognitions into a previously planned badge-pinning ceremony for seven recently promoted firefighters at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Dong said.
