A robbery turned violent last Friday as two women were assaulted on Dwight Way and Prospect Street.

The two victims were attacked by a group of three teenage women around 9:40 p.m. last Friday.

One unidentified suspect allegedly sprayed what is thought to be pepper spray in a victim’s face as she passed. When the victims tried to run away, the second woman was grabbed, punched in the face and thrown to the ground before also being sprayed in the face, according to a statement released by Berkeley Police Department.

The three suspects allegedly demanded the victims’ property but were unsuccessful after a male passer-by intervened. The suspects fled the scene and were last seen climbing into a white Dodge Charger, which fled westbound on Dwight Way, according to the statement.

The victims suffered minor physical injuries and declined medical assistance. BPD and UCPD searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
