On Tuesday at the NFL Combine, former Cal cornerback Steve Williams ran an unofficial 4.25 time at the 40-yard dash, surprising some NFL scouts in attendance.

Marked as a mid- to late-round pick, Williams needed some media spotlight to boost his draft stock. The cornerback who started 28 games under former head coach Jeff Tedford decided to forgo his senior year, a decision some argued was premature, for the NFL.

But after his 4.25 race, Williams lost of some of his high-octane speed for the official race. He finished 4.42 in the official 40-yard dash.

Unfortunately for Williams, the honor of fastest man in the Combine went to Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. With an official time of 4.27, Goodwin earned the title and possibly a shoe contract with Adidas as well.
