As if you didn’t already have enough to do on 4/20 (um … Cal Day!), TEDx Berkeley has also been scheduled on that widely celebrated day. For those of you who are wondering, TED is not a person. It’s a world-renowned conference that brings together world leaders, innovators, individuals at the top of their field and inspirational speakers to blow the minds of attendees. (By the way, TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design.) TEDx events are independently organized events that mimic the atmosphere of a real TED conference. The Clog thinks that this event will probably be pretty cool. After all, what place exudes leadership, innovation and inspiration more than UC Berkeley does? If you find the time — and, unfortunately, money — head over to Zellerbach Hall for these three speakers we think you definitely shouldn’t miss:
Alex Filippenko: Yup, Cal’s very own professor Filippenko will be speaking at the conference. Frankly, we’re not surprised. We know what you’re thinking. Why would I waste time seeing him if he’s a professor here? I can go see him any time I want to. To that we say: True. But honestly, when are you actually going to spontaneously visit Alex Filippenko or drop into one of his lectures for fun? And we can’t all take Astronomy C10. Fun fact: Filippenko recently participated in an ‘Ask me Anything’ on Reddit.
Victoria Theodore: Theodore is an accomplished keyboardist and background singer. She’s got the inside scoop on the music industry and has worked with celebrities like Stevie Wonder, Prince and John Mayer. Plus, she’s a Bay Area native. (We’ll try to forgive her for having a master’s degree in classical piano performance from Stanford.)
Chris Anderson: Chris Anderson has been the editor-in-chief of Wired magazine since 2001. He also founded a 3D Robotics company and was named one of the 100 most influential men in the world by Time magazine in 2007. And guess what? He studied quantum mechanics and science journalism at Cal.
