For many, many years now, MTV has released a number of programs that are, for one, not music-related whatsoever and, if we are being completely honest, 100 percent mindless. Shows like “Next,” “Parental Control” and “Date My Mom” are just a few of the countless programs that MTV released in recent years, and you probably saw them as either guilty pleasures or complete wastes of f***ing time! Either way, it’s been a while since MTV put on a show that made us say, “Hey, that’s actually pretty funny. And extremely entertaining.” But recently, MTV premiered the show “Girl Code,” and we here at the Clog find it pretty damn entertaining.
The way “Girl Code” is set up is simple: A series of comedians — male and female — discuss topics that are relatable to “girls.” At first glance, “Girl Code” is a show with very clear gender stereotypes and assumes that all the “girls” the show’s audience is comprised of are straight females with the raging hormones of a pubescent adolescent. And we recognize that. The show will often discuss topics like sleepovers and “mean girls” … as expected.
Once you get past this annoying aspect and recognize it, “Girl Code” is just one of those shows that you can watch consecutive episodes of while stuffing your face on the couch and not get bored. The comedians are usually wildly amusing, and the show itself is actually relatable to a lot of us. In the episode in which the “time of the month” was a topic, comedian Jessimae Peluso comments, “The worst part of PMS is feeling like a character from Mortal Kombat is pummeling your ovaries.” See? It’s funny because those of us who actually do have to suffer through this know that the struggle is REAL. And so does “Girl Code.”
And even though “Girl Code” is super relatable to the subset of its audience who experience “#girlproblems”, we at the Clog feel like it’s actually pretty relatable to anyone, really. Aside from the stereotypical bulls***, a lot of the show focuses on things that we all have in common or that we can all relate to. Topics like experimenting, playing sports, STDs, being needy and sexting have been discussed on the show, and obviously these topics are not exclusive to straight, 13-year-old, hormone-feeling females.
So if you haven’t checked out “Girl Code” we say, “DO IT!” (horny, straight, teenage girl or not). We can guarantee that you will be entertained in one form or another. Click here to watch full episodes of “Girl Code.”
