UCPD is currently investigating the theft of sign lettering from a retaining wall west of Boalt Hall in an act that officers call “grand theft lettering.”
The letters, reported stolen Tuesday, spell out the words “University of California” underneath a sign that reads “Berkeley Law.” According to a UCPD crime report, the theft took place sometime between May 1 and June 14.
The cost of the theft is $1,200, including the cost of installing new lettering more securely. The original letters were held in place with prongs.
