A man was killed in an apparent hit-and-run Monday morning in the westbound lane of the University Avenue freeway overpass.
According to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Jennifer Coats, the body was discovered at about 5:10 a.m. by an officer on patrol. The officer proceeded to call for medical assistance from Berkeley Fire Department, which pronounced the subject dead at the scene.
“Preliminary investigations indicate a hit-and-run,” Coats said. “The Fatal Accident Investigation Team is evaluating evidence and have put out a public plea for information on the car involved.”
Part of the roadway was closed while police conducted their preliminary investigation. At about 11:00 a.m., all roadways at the University Avenue freeway overpass were reopened.
BPD currently does not have any information on the vehicle involved or any possible suspects.
