Pop star Janelle Monae is putting on a free show in San Francisco’s Justin Herman Plaza on Friday, March 7. The show starts at 12:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to come at 11 a.m. to help pack meals for an anti-hunger charity.
Cruz Skate Shop on San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley is throwing a sixth anniversary party on Friday, March 7, featuring the works Los Angeles-based artist The Vulvarine, whose work is inspired by roller derbies, skateboarding and positivity. Attendance is free, and the party starts at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Oakland plays host to the Bacon and Beer Festival. A fundraiser for Oakland Grown — an organization representing local Oakland small businesses — the festival features two of the Weekender editors’ favorite things. Tickets for the event are sold out, but there may be additional releases prior to the event’s start.
The Pacific Film Archive is screening Charulata, a classic movie by legendary Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The showing is on March 8 at 6 p.m., and ticket prices vary.
Friday is Art Shout. I mean Art Murmur. Sorry, it’s just that it is really more of a SHOUT. If you like art or food you will like Art Murmur because there is ample art and food! And drinks.
