UC Berkeley student inappropriately touched on Dwinelle Hall steps

A 21-year-old female student was sexually assaulted near Dwinelle Hall on Friday afternoon.

At about 3:17 p.m., the student was walking across Dwinelle Plaza when a man made eye contact with her and started to follow her, police said in a UCPD crime alert released Monday. She became scared and ran toward Dwinelle Hall. Police said that as the student started to walk up the northeast stairwell, she felt a hand reach under her skirt and touch her inappropriately. The student screamed and the man fled the scene, police said.

UCPD searched the area but could not locate the suspect. The student did not sustain any injuries during the encounter.

According to the crime alert, the suspect is described as:

A 31-year-old black male, 5-foot-7 with a heavy build, black hair worn in long braids, an unkempt appearance and wearing a gray shirt and baggy pants.
