Police arrested a man on suspicion of committing a series of thefts from the Koshland, Doe and East Asian libraries. The suspect arrested is Kirk Robinson, age 56.

On Monday at about 3:30 p.m., a Koshland library staff member observed Robinson enter a workstation and allegedly take an unattended laptop and cell phone.

According to a UCPD crime alert released Wednesday morning, the staff member then approached Robinson, who returned the items to the workstation. Robinson was later detained near the Valley Life Sciences Building by UCPD and was found to be in possession of a stolen laptop from the East Asian Library and a backpack from Doe Library, police said. Security footage showed he had entered the libraries on campus, conducted casing activities and allegedly left with the items.

Police asked that those with information about the crime or the suspect contact the criminal investigation bureau at 510-642-0472.
