Police arrest 1 suspect in connection to cellphone robbery

Police arrested one suspect in connection to a cellphone robbery Tuesday night.

A 21-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way with her cellphone in her hand about 9 p.m., according to a UCPD crime alert released Thursday. A man on a bicycle approached her and allegedly grabbed her cell phone, then later headed west on Allston Way.

UCPD officers detained Preston Bouie, 23, on University Avenue near Milvia Street, and Berkeley Police Department officers arrested him after the victim made a positive identification, according to the alert. The woman was not physically injured, and her phone was retrieved.

Bouie has an arraignment scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland, according to the Alameda County Inmate Locator.
