Two people were discovered dead in their South Berkeley apartment Saturday morning, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

According to Berkeley Police Department Watch Commander Lt. Joe Okies, BPD and Berkeley Fire Department were called to a house at the 1300 block of Haskell about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, regarding a medical emergency.

“Family members were at the scene and indicated that the emergency was inside a detached apartment,” Okies said. “Firefighters located two occupants inside the apartment. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

BPD arrived at the scene shortly after to initiate an investigation, according to Okies. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office also later arrived at the scene.

According to Okies, the identities of the two victims are not being released at this time.

“At this point, the cause of death has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing,” Okies said.
