The fashion on this year’s Oscar red carpet was as beautiful and timeless as the movies nominated. Popular style choices by the stars included large diamond earrings, lengthy gold dresses and bold lips. While there were many stars who shined as brightly as the awards, just as only one can win the Oscar, only a few can take home the coveted title of best dressed.

First on the best dressed list is last year’s Best Actress winner Brie Larson wearing Oscar de la Renta. Not many women tonight dressed in black, but Larson’s bold choice stood out in a sophisticated and classy way. The V-shaped neckline added elegance to an already elegant color and gave the young actress an aura of maturity and poise. With ladies like Sarah Jessica Parker and Amy Adams under his belt, Oscar de la Renta adds another fashionably dressed client to his long list.

Next is Janelle Monae wearing Elie Saab. Her bejeweled black and white dress was covered in bird brooches to represent her blue collar roots and her ascension to stardom. The actress took part in two big nominated films for the evening, “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures,” and her dress offered an impressive “WOW” factor to Monae’s already impressive feat of being nominated for two pictures. Her avant garde sparkling dress was a huge transition from her previous androgynous pantsuits. This newest look further proves her spectacular ability to dress on all ends of the fashion spectrum.

Nicole Kidman — wearing Armani

Alongside the first two ladies stood Nicole Kidman in Armani. Her white high collar halter dress matched stunningly with her fair complexion. Kidman’s bold red lip and large diamond earrings were an excellent choice when it came to accessorizing her gown. Overall, her look was classy, sophisticated and sexy without being too extraneous.

Taraji P Henson — wearing Alberta Ferretti

Fourth on the list, Taraji P Henson wearing Alberta Ferretti looked stunning. While she may not have been mentioned much on the red carpet, Henson’s elegant blue velvet dress and sweetheart neckline made her look like a piece of art, and gave an ode to old school Hollywood glamor, a popular theme for the 2017 Oscars. She accessorized it perfectly with a large diamond necklace and a stunning emerald ring.

Charlize Theron — wearing Dior

Charlize Theron amazed in a long, lustrous Dior gown. While the low-cut gold gown made a statement, her Chopard earrings made an evening bigger one. Her diamond jewelry caught the eyes of many and was officially trending on Twitter as of last night. It gave her a goddess-like aura and her wavy ponytail gave her youthful sophistication.

Emma Stone — wearing Givenchy

Rounding off the list is Emma Stone wearing Givenchy. Similarly to Taraji P Henson, Stone also displayed an old-time Hollywood vibe. The fringe at the bottom of her dress alluded to her film “La La Land” and paid homage to both jazz music and jazz culture. Her dark lip paired with her red hair makes her a standout amongst many of the other women on the red carpet. The gold embroidery of her dress shone amongst the many stars on the red carpet.

Honorable Mentions

Other well-dressed ladies included Ruth Negga, Chrissy Teigen and Naomie Harris. The red carpet fashion displayed a strong connection between the actors and their pieces. This year’s Academy Award fashion brought about a connection between classic sophistication and sparkling youthfulness.
